Cracking Up

Today is my rostered day off work, so I am using it to have a bit of a quiet day.

The day started off in the pool at the Friday morning Swim Smooth session. Pretty solid session as is the norm. I found I am still carrying a bit of fatigue in the shoulders from Mandurah 70.3 and so I was suffering a bit by the last third of the session. Still it went okay, actually pretty reasonably given how I was feeling.

I also took a minute to swing past Churchill Cycles for a bit of early bird maintenance, with a view to getting things ready for Busselton. Mainly I was dropping off my back wheel to get a new tubular fitted. The one on there is still going okay, but getting a bit long in the tooth. Time for a new race tyre, particularly leading into a big race like Busselton.

I have fitted tubulars before, the one that is in the process of being removed for one, but I am also more than happy to pay somebody else to do it. So that is what I am doing.

Whilst I was there I asked whether they were able to get me in another one of these:

One of these is the bit of plastic that covers the front brake on a Cervelo P5. A quick Google search will show you that these have a bad habit of cracking, pretty much exactly like mine. I knew about this fault before I got my bike so I have always been very careful when taking them off and putting them on. Despite my care, I noticed this crack when I was racking my bike in Mandurah. I have no idea when it occurred, but occurred it certainly has. It hasn't broken yet, but I thought I would preempt the breakage and order a spare so I would be ready if the crack gets worse.

A ride on the program for this afternoon. I will need to head off soonish, but unfortunately it is about a bajillion degrees in Perth today. Actually it is only forecast to hit 36 degrees, but if feels hotter. Given that, I am holding off going on my ride for as long as I reasonably can. It will have to happen sooner or later, at the moment I am opting for later.
