It was time for my first run since Mandurah 70.3 this morning. Training this week has been going surprisingly well, not to much fatigue etc on the bike and in the pool. Well two out of three isn't bad.
The start of the run was accompanied by a symphony of discomfort as various joints and other body parts protested about being used again. That calmed down once I had warmed up, but the legs were certainly feeling a little flat. Not dead weights, but there is still some weariness there. Luckily it was only a short run, so it wasn't to big a deal.
It some ways the run today was a repeat of last Thursday. It was the same session for one, but the weather this morning was also similar. A prefect morning for a ride, light winds, lovely temperature etc. Oh well, also pretty good weather for running so not all bad.
This morning I was reminded of one of my pet gripes when it comes to running on footpaths. People who walk across the whole path and then don't move to make room for you. For me this is a separate issue to people who walk (or ride) across both sides of a shared cycleway. I really don't like that, I think it is pretty dangerous, since bikes that are trying to get past can be moving pretty quick. No this is more about people on footpaths, where bikes aren't expected. I actually sort of don't mind if they are across both sides of the path and then move to make room for you. Let's face it, sometimes the paths are a bit narrow and it is nice walking besides somebody, so you are forced to take up a bit more room. I even don't mind quite so much when I run up behind people and they don't move, I don't expect people to walk along looking behind themselves, so it is reasonable for them to not realise that I am there. But what really bugs me is when I am running towards people who are walking across the entire path and they don't budge, forcing me off the path to get around them. I mean common, that's just rude. What, didn't you see me coming, don't I have the same rights to use the path as you? Happened to me twice this morning. That will teach me for running a bit later once the paths had started becoming a bit busier.
On a side note, I just reread the above paragraph and had to retype large sections of it since it was so full of typos. I was getting so worked up typing it the first time that by the time I finished I was pretty much just mashing keys with my fist. Deep breaths.
Nothing on the books this afternoon, with another rest session planned. Might get in some hardcore stretching though. This recovery week thing is a bit of alright.
