First off, I should probably clarify something from yesterday's post. I don't actually kick puppies as part of my Ironman training. That was a bit of an extreme hypothetical, in reality I am not sure doing so would provide any real training benefit.
However, if a sports science person somewhere proves that kicking puppies can improve performance in triathlon by 2% or so, well those puppies better watch out.
Moving on from the questionable training benefits of kicking puppies, I was on the bike this morning.
Just a bit of a spin, nothing too strenuous. For rides like this I start from home and head to work via a fairly circuitous route so that I can get in the necessary miles. Unfortunately this morning was one of those rare morning where there was a north easterly blowing. We get easterlies all the time in Perth, but the north bit doesn't happen all that often. It is unfortunate because the ride between my house and my work is in a roughly north easterly direction. So this morning's wind direction unfortunately meant headwind for 80%o of the ride. Given that, the ride went surprisingly well. My legs were feeling pretty fresh and the wind didn't seem to cause me too many headaches.
Plenty of people out and about as well this morning. One of those mornings where every man and his dog was out for a ride. I learnt a little bit of a lesson today though. If you are riding with a couple of complete strangers and they seem to be taking turns at the front, make sure they going to keep doing so if you go to the front. I jumped on the wheel of a couple of people, just to get through a particularly unpleasant headwind section. I thought I would do my bit and take a turn at the front, only to find myself sitting out there for the next few kms until the others turned off. That is why I do most of my training by myself.
A bit of a rest session this afternoon so that will be nice. I just have to ride home first.
No puppies were harmed in the writing of this post...yet.
