Nice quiet rest day today. As is often the case it was luverly. I even got to get myself out of bed, no alarm, no four year old, just me deciding it was time to get up. Would have been nice if that time had been a bit later, but I had to go to work. It was a rest day after all, not a coma.
Given it was a rest day there isn't really much to say on the training front. I am feeling pretty okay after yesterday's long run. A little sore and sorry this morning, but feeling mostly okay now.
Away from training, I came to realise something interesting about Ironman while out training on the weekend. Amongst those who know about Triathlon, saying you are doing an Ironman seems to give you a free pass to do a lot of stuff. Once you say you are doing an Ironman, and what you are doing is part of the required training, people just let you go on with it.
'Why are you kicking those puppies?'
'I am doing Ironman and my coach says this is necessary'
'Oh right, go on right ahead then'.
It is strange, but a little liberating.
I have another fairly easy day tomorrow, with a bit of a spin in the morning. This will be my first outing on the training bike since it was serviced by Churchill. From what Matt Illingworth was saying it should be running quite a bit better, certainly more quietly. I am looking forward to that. It was getting to the point where on certain parts of bumpy road I was feeling a bit self conscious as I rattled along. Hopefully I can now return to the quiet hummm that cycling should be.
Looking forward to it.
