Was at swimming this morning. Yes that Terenzo Bozzone. That was unexpected. Guy Crawford knows him and so bought him down for some training. I actually swam in front of him in the warm up, so I can say I swam in front of Terenzo Bozzone. He then swam in front of me for the rest of the set, a long, long way in front of me.
I had a recovery swim on the program this morning, so I let myself have an easy one. No Swim Smooth session is ever particularly easy, but you can take it a bit easier if put your mind to it, so that is what I set out to do. I felt surprisingly alright. Bit stiff in the shoulders for the first 500m ,but not too bad after that. I probably would have been okay for the whole 5km set, but in the spirit of a recovery week I followed my coaches instructions and got out after 3km.
I do like a recovery week. At the moment I am really only on recovery week-lite, since I don't have much time before Busselton, but it is still a low volume, low intensity week. The thing about recovery week is that it is certainly less demanding physically, but it is the mental break I really enjoy. You have this one week where you don't have to be flexing your motivational muscle quite as much. For one special week, you can let yourself take the easy option, like getting out of the pool after 3km. It is a needed break. To get yourself out of bed and going each day is very fatiguing, you can't do it for ever, you need to give yourself the chance to have a mental breather.
Back on the bike tonight, as I mentioned yesterday, my ride yesterday morning felt pretty okay. My ride home from work last night though was another matter. The wind was blowing something fierce last night and I didn't have much will to fight it, so I had a bit of a doddle home. Hopefully the wind isn't quite so determined tonight. I don't mind a doddle when it comes to a commute back home, but a proper training ride is another matter. A super strong wind tonight could make it just a bit unpleasant.
