A bit of riding on the agenda this afternoon, I can tell it must be a riding day since the glorious weather we had yesterday has abandoned us and instead the weather has turned into grey clouds and rain. Perfect riding weather.
Actually it is supposed to be clearing by this afternoon, I just like complaining about the weather.
The other training activity for today was of course the Wednesday morning Swim Smooth swim. As I said in yesterday's blog I had my reservations about this morning's swim, but in the end it went pretty okay, better than last week anyway. The session still had a section which on first impressions didn't seem all that possible, but other than that bit it all went pretty well and I felt good for most of it. The not that possible bit of the session was a nasty set of 50s at the end which certainly proved problematic. However, that was sort of the point of them so I don't feel so bad about blowing up half way through.
In the end I did get out for my run yesterday afternoon. Heading into I was a bit uncertain since my ITB was still a bit sore from the run yesterday morning. I had been hitting my ITB pretty hard with stretches all day but it hadn't improved much so I was unsure if I should be pushing it by running again. I didn't want this to be one of those situations where in two months I can look back and say, 'that run, that one there, that is where I did the damage'. I can already do that too much as it is. By the afternoon though it has eased up enough for me to think that it was at least worth doing the warm up. After the warm up it was still a bit borderline, but I felt good enough to do the rest of the session.
After the second run I pulled up pretty sore again and I was thinking, 'I hope that wasn't to much'. I hit the stretches again, however, this time I was at home and so I could use my foam roller. I don't use my roller to stretch my ITB all that much because it hurts and I am a big girl, but a lot of knowledgeable people have told me that it is one of the best ways of doing it. Turns out they may have a point. By the time I went to bed my ITB was barely sore and this morning when I woke up, it wasn't 100%, but it wasn't far off. Certainly much improved. Who knew that listening to people who know what they are talking about would be a good idea.
Shocking!!
