Well this morning was a real effort. On the program for today was a repeat of the long interval run I had on Tuesday morning. I woke up this morning feeling so tired, I really didn't think the run was going to be possible. I just couldn't see how I was going to get through it. But once again my body showed that it can surprise me if I give it a chance.
I headed out on the run thinking, well I will at least do the warm up and then I have had a bit of a run. During the warm up I was thinking, perhaps I can do a bit of a run/stretch session, or maybe I will do the intervals but not worry about hitting my target times. In the end I got to the end of my warm up and thought, here we go, lets give this one a go. To my surprise I got through the first interval and hit my target time. It wasn't as fast as Tuesday, but it didn't need to be. I hadn't blown up so I figured I didn't really have a good excuse to not start the 2nd interval. I got through that one as well, once again hitting my target time. I have done two now I thought, it is officially a decent run (which I consider to be anything over 10km) if I blow up on the third one, well maybe that is okay. But the third interval came and went and I still hadn't smashed into the wall and I was still running on pace. With one interval to go I didn't really have any excuses to not finish the session, so I started it and managed to hold pace on that one as well. I got the end of the pieces and just stood there, saying to myself, I can't believe I got through that, and I really couldn't. When I started the session I could not see how I would finish it. I was amazed that I did. It was a pretty cruisy warm down though.
Not sure why I was so tired this morning. The ride last night really hit me pretty hard, once again I am not sure why. I felt pretty good for a lot of it, but the last 20 minutes or so didn't feel great (headwind) and I felt a bit off once I got home. Hard to put a finger on it, but certainly very tired. It is a pretty heavy week, so I am thinking it is just fatigue.
I have a pretty easy spin on the program for this afternoon. Easy spin it is going to be, that is for sure. Then plenty of sleep.
