First for everything

I had a rare occurrence today, I stopped myself from training.

After my disappointing swim on Wednesday, I had the usual triathlete response. I was going to come back to the pool for the Friday morning swim and smash it. Swim till my arms explode, that sort of thing. Only one problem, this week is a lighter week and I didn't have a Friday morning swim on my program. Oh well I thought, I will go anyway.

Then yesterday, with a bit of distance between myself and my Wednesday swim, I started to think, 'you know what, I could always listen to my coach and not swim'. WHAT!!! I hear you scream at your monitor, listen to your coach. MADNESS. That sort of approach will never catch on.

These thoughts were reinforced by my wife who said something along the lines of 'you're an idiot, listen to Daryl, he knows way more about what you are doing that you do'. Succinct.

So in the end I listened to my coach and didn't go swimming. I could have trained and I didn't. Weird.

Instead of swimming this morning, I went for a ride instead (which was on the program). It was a lovely ride, not too cold, I actually had a tail wind for heaps of it for once. All good. Plus, it is wet and miserable now and if I had gone swimming I would be out riding in this now. Instead I get to look out the window and feel glad that I am not out riding in it. Smugness can be fun.

Triathlon Christmas this weekend. Kona. The big one. Very exciting. Marcus, Stef and Bryan are over there from Daryl's squad, presumably starting to feel pretty excited and a little nervous. I will certainly be keeping my eyes glued to the tracker on Sunday. Good luck guys.
