Lovely start

It was a very nice start to the week today. I had a shortish, cruisy recovery ride on the program this morning, which went well and was very enjoyable. The enjoyability was enhanced a fair way by some very pleasant weather which has continued from yesterday (and should hang around for the rest of the week) no rain, light winds etc. On top of all that, because it was a shortish ride, I also got a bit of a sleep in. Bonus. All up it was a great way to get into the week.

This week marks the beginning of a gradual taper leading into Bintan. That means a bit less training and a bit more resting, which I am really looking forward to. This last three week block has been pretty tough and I am glad to have made it through. Seeing how I am feeling now, Daryl's call to have a rest day last Monday was completely the right one. I am not sure I would have been physically capable of pushing through last Monday, although I suspect I would have given it a good go (I can be pretty stubborn). However, I can see now that I was right on the edge. Having one day off was just enough to bring me back. The difference that the one day off  made was that I went through all of last week feeling pretty good and training effectively. I think that if I had pushed through I probably would have fallen into a bit of a hole sometime in the later part of last week. If nothing else I am pretty sure I would have been tired and cranky and ended up acting like a bit of a jerk. I possibly shouldn't be so surprised that the advice of my extremely experienced and knowledgeable coach would turn out to be correct. Who knew (smacks forehead)!!

Cross country run in the morning. I am hoping the tides are good (I have checked and it will be touch and go). And that I manage to not fall over for the second week in a row. Fingers crossed.
