War wounds

It was back to the pool for another Wednesday morning swim this morning. Like last week, this morning's swim was a long one, but a good one. It was nice to get some actual training in, particularly some where my hamstring wasn't a factor. The hamstring was fine, but my left hand got a hammering on the lane rope. It seemed like every turn at the far end of the pool I would hit my hand on the rope after I had pushed off. It didn't happen at the other end, so I am not sure what I was doing wrong at the far end, but it happened a fair bit. Those lane ropes can be vicious.

I had a follow up physio appointment today and the recovery of the hamstring continues to go well. I am off for an easy bike ride tonight. If that goes to plan then I will try a very light jog in the morning. Hopefully it all goes well, but I will be pulling the pin on any session that starts to get painful.

Speaking of going for a ride, I found out why my new brake pads are making such an awful noise. They are the wrong kind. Neither I nor the guy in the store noticed when he grabbed them that they are specifically for ceramic coated braking surfaces. Brake pads for ceramic surfaces are particularly aggressive. I didn't realise until a google search about the problem made me go and check the packaging. Which would explain why they make an awful noise and why they feel like they are tearing my wheels to pieces. They kind of are. I have only done a few miles on them so the wheels should be fine. The braking surfaces will probably need a bit of a clean up, but long term I think they will be okay. It does mean getting another set of replacement pads though, what a pain.
