Gently gently

I got out for a very gentle run this morning. I was being pretty careful on my hamstring, but I think it went okay. During the run I was aware of some tightness in my hamstring, but it didn't flare back up. I don't seem to have pulled up sore from it, but I will monitor it for the rest of the day and see how it goes.

Absolutely freezing this morning, sub 2 degrees. The cold prompted me to run in a pair of long compression pants and a long sleeve top for the first time. Kept me pretty warm. I have seen people running in gloves recently and I was tempted this morning, but thought it might be a little over the top. In future though I might choose a pair of pants that still have some life left in the elastic that holds them up. Plumbers crack is not a great look when running.

It was very nice to get back to the relative warmth of the house and get tucked into breakfast, which is my favourite meal of the day. I think I am getting to the point where I might need a bigger bowl though.

Need a bigger bowl

The ride last night also went smoothly, with a pretty solid ride leading to almost no soreness. I think the recovery is well underway.

I picked up a pair of overshoes the other day and last night was my first proper ride in them. For those who don't know, overshoes are things that you wear over your cycling shoes (hence the highly technical name). They can range from simple covers, to full waterproof, windproof, impervious to everything (except love), covers. Mine are somewhere in between. They were great. I was about 40 minutes into my ride and I realised I wasn't aware of my feet. That isn't unusual, but this time it was a good unawareness, rather than a numb unawareness. My feet weren't cold, or wet or anything, they were just feet, which just how I like me feet to be. By the end of the ride, my feet may have even been a little sweaty, which is a good effort considering it was 7 degrees at the time. I can see more overshoe wearing in my future.
