A quick trip

It was time for my long run this morning. I headed out nice and early to get it done, but not quite as early as I had planned. I knew I would need my bike today so I figured I might as well get it ready before heading out on my run since that would give my body a bit more a chance to wake up. Setting up the bike went fine until I went to top up the air in the tyres. As I was opening up the valve on the rear tyre, the valve stem snapped. For those unfamiliar with bikes, valve stems are not supposed to snap. It is not a design feature. There wasn't much I could do other than change out the tube. At least I was nice and awake by the time I headed out for my run.

Despite the delay it was still dark for most of my run. It was another cross country run, with the usual combination of sand, grass, hills and intervals. It is an interesting run I will give it that, plenty of variation, and a definite strength session. When running cross country in the dark there is always a question mark over what you are stepping on. This morning the inevitable happened and I rolled my ankle fairly painfully on a rock. I am always a bit surprised it doesn't happen more often. There was a minute or so after I rolled it where I wasn't sure if I would be able to run on it, but it seemed to settle back into running fairly well. It is a bit tender now, but I am hoping some ice and some rest will see it right.

Today is another miserable winter day in Perth, with some significant rain passing over the city this morning. The forecast is for there to be some more showers this afternoon, from the rain radar it looks about 50/50 at the moment as to whether more rain is on its way. After last week I have about zero motivation to go riding in the rain. I am not a particularly big fan of working on a wind trainer either, I would always prefer to be actually riding. But if the rain comes in this afternoon, I think a trainer session might be on my agenda. At least it would be warm. Boring, but warm.
