When your training is largely possible due to the infinite forbearance of your partner, sometimes compromises are necessary. This morning was one of those times. My wife needed me home this morning and so I had a very nice and relaxing morning at home rather than heading to the pool. These sorts of requests come amazingly infrequently in our house and so when they do occur, I am in no position to deny them. Nor would I want to.
On to the bike for an easy spin tonight. I changed my brake pads again last night and so my brake issue seems to now be fixed, so that is nice. I also finally got around to adjusting my brakes, which I have been meaning to do ever since my last set of brake pads were new, ie some time ago. Better late than never. I am looking forward to this ride, the weather is looking good out there and so I am hoping it will be quite lovely. Fingers crossed.
Earlier in the week I was saying that I wasn't sure if I might be coming down with a little bit of a cold. I am still not sure, everyone in my house has been ill to one degree or another so I certainly wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't feeling 100%. I woke up this morning with a bit of a sore throat, so that was another reason why I thought spending the morning in bed may not have been a bad idea. I am hoping that I can avoid any sort of serious trip into illnessville.
On the topic of not being 100%, my hamstring seems to well and truly be on the mend. I am reluctant to preemptively use the term 'right as rain' but it certainly seems pretty close. No more pain, even when massaged. Very happy about that. This weekend will be a bit more of a robust test for it, but if it comes through that okay, then I will be happy to declare it recovered.
This last week has been a bit all over the place, and if I am honest I couldn't really call it a great training week. I have been a bit hurt, missed sessions etc. Usually I feel that my consistency in training in one of my greatest assets. However, sometimes getting out of bed can be a real challenge and all that consistency can fall in a big hole. This week has been one of those times. It hasn't been a total write off and I am happy that I have managed to get some good work in on some of the days, but it certainly hasn't been a successful week. However, these things do sometimes happen and rather than beating myself up I am making sure I am looking forward. I am keen to give myself a clean slate next week and get back into it. I have 6 weeks until Bintan and I plan on making ever minute of those 6 weeks count.
