Bit of a frustrating day today. I woke up with my hamstring feeling okayish. I thought I would test it out on the bike and it became obvious pretty quickly that it wasn't going to stand up to the hills session that I had planned. I instead went for a bit of an easy spin on my way to work. It is a little tender now, but I still think it is pretty minor, I am not limping or anything. I am slightly annoyed that I persisted with the ride which does seem to have aggravated it, but at the same time I am glad that I didn't insist on pushing through with the entire ride. Sometimes a triathlete's body is successful in getting a message through their thick skull.
I am off to the physio this afternoon (first physio visit in Perth - hooray??) and that will give me a better idea of what I am looking at. I have never 'done a hamy' before so this is a new experience for me (again hooray??). Similar to yesterday I think this would fall under the category of a novel experience that I would be happy to do without. From the people I have spoken to, this should only slow me down for a few days, so fingers crossed. I am refusing to be that bothered by it until I have been to the physio and I am hoping they have some good news. Daryl has burst forth into action to rearrange my training cycle slightly so that this doesn't impact the lead up to Bintan to much.
On top of that I am feeling a little flat today, our kids have been a bit sick for the last little while, so I may have picked up a bit of that. Lets face it with small kids you are pretty closely associated with their germ laden bodily fluids. However, I suspect that what I am feeling is probably more due to frustration about my leg and the associated average ride this morning rather than anything else. See how I feel in the morning after a visit to the physio and a good night's sleep.
On top of my legs not making for a great ride this morning, my new brake pads were also making some fairly awful noises. It actually made me stop a couple of times to make sure something wasn't broken. Just bedding down the new pads I think, by the end of the ride the bad noises seemed to have mostly stopped. I found what looked like a small metal sliver on my back rim, which I think was responsible for some of the unpleasantness. I have no idea where it came from, it doesn't seem to be a splinter from the rim or anything. I managed to get if off and there didn't appear to be any damage to the rim below. A bit strange. I am pretty sure the next ride will be a bit nicer, once the brake pads and the rims get to know each other a bit better.
Fingers crossed for the physio now.
