You Never Know

You never quite know when a good session is going to sneak up on you and bite you.

It would be fair to say I wasn't tearing out the door yesterday morning to get to the weekly Front Runner bike session. I didn't think many people would turn up (given that many of the regulars are at World Champs) and the weather looked pretty miserable. Pretty much I thought I was about to go riding in the rain for no good reason. Motivation central it was not.

Still, coaching isn't always glamorous so out the door I went and on I got with it.

Really though I couldn't have been more wrong about the session.

Sure the squad was small, but that actually meant that we had a nice, personal coaching session. Rather than detract from the session, it actually made it better. Plus, because the athletes who were there happened to be strong cyclists, I personally also got a nice solid ride. Something I don't think I have had for a while and it turns out I have missed.

On top of that, while the roads were a little bit wet and the day was a bit windy, we didn't get a single drop of rain and we got a lovely sunrise to top it off.

When I finished off the ride I realised I had had a really good time, a thoroughly enjoyable session.

It just goes to show that you never know and you should never write of a session before you have done it.
