Unexpected Success

For anyone who reads regularly you may have noticed that last week was a real struggle. I was tired and flat for nearly the entire week, and I suspect I may have had a mild dose of the cold. Not awesome.

However, the silver lining part of me is actually pretty happy with how last week panned out. While I didn't get to train as I had originally wanted, not being 100% didn't impact my training all that much, I only really last one session or so. And while I wasn't really able to build fitness, I also didn't lose any, meaning that last week was really a bit of a maintenance week. Not a success, but hardly a write off either.

Another upside to the quiet week last week is that my fatigue levels are now in a much better place. As I have written about previously, I have been pushing my luck with regard to fatigue for a few weeks, really pushing hard in the training in order to gain fitness quickly. This has meant that I have been tired a lot and probably skirting the risk of illness. After the maintenance week last week that fatigue is a lot lower and is all together more manageable.

All the above developments are good aspects of a relatively undesirable situation. Getting sick or injured is never a situation that an athlete likes to find themselves in, but it doesn't always have to be the end of the world if managed well and approached in the right frame of mind.
