I logged the longest session I have done for a while today, 3 hours of paddling. It is the longest paddle I have done both in time and distance, just a touch over 26km. It was a great milestone to tick over.
Today's session was a definitely in the realm of long steady work. The race I am preparing for at the Australian Championships is probably about 2 hours long, so today's session will go a long way to building the fitness and strength necessary to race for that duration.
Despite the session being my longest (by quite a margin) it felt surprisingly okay. I just ticked along strong and steady and while I did start to fatigue in the third hour I didn't fall in a big hole at any point. I am choosing to interpret it as a positive sign that the training over the last five weeks is starting to kick in. So far so good.
On a completely unrelated note, it is my daughters 10 year old birthday tomorrow and so we are currently hosting 7 10 year olds for a sleep over. It could be a very long night..
