Apologies for another late blog entry today. I have sat down several times to make a start on this and each time I have got pulled away by something.
A little bit of an accidental double session today.
The first session of the day was the deliberate bit. 90 minutes on the Kickr. A nice solid, slightly longer session. Lots of good indications from the session. The heart rate was a bit lower today and the ride generally more comfortable. All good signs.
The accidental second session came in the afternoon with a short unplanned run. We had an errand to run at the post office before picking up our daughter at school. The post office visit took longer than planned so I stayed behind to get it done while my wife went to pick up our daughter. She would come and pick me up afterwards
Surprisingly the post office didn't take that long and I figured that I might as well walk towards school (only a km or so away) to save us some time. I will note at this point that as we had left the house prior to all this my wife had asked if she needed to grab her phone and we had both agreed that it was unnecessary. Anyway, there was two ways from the post office to the school and so I picked the one that I thought was most likely and set off.
See where this is going?
It wasn't until I was most of the way to school that I figured something had gone wrong. I optimistically walked the rest of the way to school hoping at any minute to see our car around the corner. At this point I guessed (correctly) that my wife had driven the other way and was probably now waiting for me at the post office. Without her phone I had no way of telling her where I was and I figured that if I didn't get there soon she would wonder leave to find me, starting a vicious circle of her looking for me while I looked for her.
That is where the run leg came in, as I legged it back to the post office to get there before she left.
Unfortunately I had not exactly kitted myself out for a run, wearing thongs as I was. I have never been a advocate of the barefoot running fad and I have to say that after today I still am not.
Still it is nice to be back to enough fitness that I can at least run a km or so when necessary without any great issue. Other than some sore feet of course.
Back on the trainer in the morning.
