Solid Saturday of doing stuff today. Mostly running around doing errands sort of stuff, but that is kind of what Saturday's are for. Still it wasn't all fetching and carrying, there was also a bit of training.
Training today was 90 minutes on the Kickr. This was my fourth session on the Kickr for the week, which means I should be well and truly sick of it, but I am not really. In the last seven weeks I have spent so much time on the Kickr it has become like a second home.
I am very keen to get back to riding on the road, but one thing the last couple of weeks of recovery has shown me is that there is no point rushing. I was hoping to be back on the road today, but the shoulder still doesn't feel quite up to that. No big deal, the Kickr isn't going anywhere.
This week has been the very quiet start to what I am hoping will be my return to fitness. I am keeping it low key in case my recovery forces me to slow things down again. Hopefully it doesn't though. I thought I would start the rebuild because there are some races coming up in March and April that I would really like to do. There is a very good chance that my body won't be ready to race by then, but on the slim chance it is I would like to give myself every chance at being fit. That means doing some work.
Plus, I have been getting a bit sick of watching my slide into unfitness. The time felt right to put a stop to that. I have certainly lost a lot of fitness and put on quite a bit of weight, but I am looking forward to the challenge of turning that around (if my body lets me). I got out to a maximum weight of just over 78kg (I usually race a bit under 73) so I have a little way to go. I am looking forward to the challenge though. Hopefully my shoulder lets me do the work so that I can get on with it.
