Perth has really turned it on today, but not in a good way, more in a 'wow that is a lot of rain' sort of way. Seriously unpleasant weather for much of the day. So, despite my best intentions, I was on the trainer this morning rather than being out on the road.
As nice as being out on the road would have been this morning, being back on the trainer was good too. A good gauge of how things are going. The session went well, but to be honest I think I may have gone out a bit too hard as I faded towards the end. Still, looking at the heart rate etc for the session, I think I can say that I am finally over this cold, or near enough anyway. About time too, it has taken ages to clear. Finally.
Other than the spin on the trainer, I also had a swim session down at Claremont with the Swim Smooth squad. This was a tough little session which included 10 x 200m. It was a good session and if anything it backed up the ride session in confirming that I am past this cold.
Running in the morning, with a long, but very easy run. Trying something a bit new at the moment with respect to running and one of those things is actually running easy when I am supposed to. It will be interesting to see how the session goes. The prescribed pace is much slower than I have run outside of bonking in a race, but that is what I am supposed to work to. I suspect keeping the pace slow may be as challenging as keeping it fast can be. I think my aim with the session though will be, rather than focusing on pace (fast or slow) instead just focus on feel and keeping it feeling easy. Will see.
Before all that can happen though, I have to head to the airport. For once this trip won't be for me to get on a plane, but rather to pick somebody up. Fellow Daryl athlete Stef Puszka is coming to down and is going to stay with us for a few days. Sort of a mini Daryl Training Camp. It should be heaps of fun and a great chance to catch up with Stef who I haven't really seen since the Japan 70.3.
Speaking of Daryl athletes, lots of them racing over at the Sunshine Coast 70.3 tomorrow, in particular Tim Green. Good luck to them all, hopefully the day is a speedy one.
