I am on a fairly easy training week this week, no scheduled training, just go out and do something every day. Tuesday I had an easy walk to get the body moving again, yesterday I was swimming and today I went out for a ride.
The weather this morning was borderline for riding. Will it be wet or won't it? If it rains, will it be heavy? In the end I took a punt and headed out, figuring that I was likely to get wet, but not too wet. That prediction was about right.
Unfortunately, even light rain tends to make the roads wet, and that is where I came unstuck this morning. Literally. Just one of those silly mistakes, go into a roundabout with a bit more speed. Out go the tyres, down goes the me. Fairly low speed, but I still landed on my right side pretty heavily. Hard enough that I now have slightly less skin that I did before and a new ventilation hole in my jersey.
New one too - very annoying |
As I mentioned, last night I was swimming. I had thought about going down and swimming with the Swim Smooth Squad yesterday morning, but really what I was after was a 'get moving again' swim, rather than a 'swim until I explode' type session. So in the end I fired up the Swim Smooth App, chose a Technique session that I liked the look of and did that instead. Brilliant. Every time I use the App I am reminded how useful it is. In this case the swim was just what I was after. The right level of tech and a little bit of work to finish off with. Having a tool to tell me exactly what I needed to do meant that the session was purposeful, rather than just becoming a bit of a float around, which these solo session can be sometimes. The swimming felt really good too. Better than it did before I left for Malaysia. The connection at the front of the stroke was feeling good which is nice because I have been struggling to regain that feel at the front end for a little while. Hopefully swimming continues to feel good in the coming weeks.
Day off work tomorrow. It will be my first official day off due to part time work. I am quite looking forward to it. The plan will be to head back to the pool for a proper swim squad session, pending my shoulder feeling up for it. Fingers crossed.
