Well as I suspected yesterday, I didn't head down to the pool this morning. My shoulder and wrist are still a bit too tender after my crash yesterday. They are greatly improved over yesterday, but I felt that they were still a bit too sore to expose to a solid swim session. Not all doom and gloom though, I did have a doctor's appointment planned for this morning to check out my wrist, since it was just so sore last night, but by this morning it had improved so much that I ended up cancelling the appointment. So things are definitely on the improve, I suspect I will just be a bit bruised for a few days.
Because I didn't go swimming this morning I ended up heading out for a bit of a walk/run with the family to keep myself moving. The session was made up of:
3km walk with a pram and toddler worth of resistance.
Recovery coffee
1km resistance walking
1km run to retrieve forgotten wallet
1km run to return to family
2km resistance walking warm-down.
Hardcore.
In all seriousness though, it has been nice to have both a day off work, and a low key training week. It meant this morning that I stayed in bed for ages and had an awesome sleep in. Followed by the great family session above. My wife only works every second Friday (not today) and it is school holidays at the moment, so everybody is home which has been really nice.
The rest of today is going to be spent doing racing support type work. This trip to Putrajaya was one of those where everything seemed to break. My rear red bike light died, my heart rate monitor strap gave it up and my power meter met an untimely end too. This week has been spent getting all those things sorted so that I am ready to get back into training proper next week. The heart rate strap and light have been sorted. Today will be spent fixing the power meter plus a few other tasks, like getting some sponsorship logos added to the race kit etc. Just those unglamourous logistical tasks that are necessary to make the actual racing thing happen.
Tomorrow I will be back out on the bike, and I am hopeful that my shoulder will be up for an afternoon swim too. See how that goes though, not going to push it, although I suspect it will be fine. Hopefully the weather comes to the party for the ride tomorrow, since the last few days have been grey and drizzly. All part of riding at this time of year I know, but given my recent trip to the ground I would be happy with drier roads tomorrow.
