The day started off a ride down to the transition area to have a swim on the course. Nice enough swim course, but you really felt the loss of buoyancy that comes with the fresh water. It was okay once you got going, but when I first jumped in it just felt like you would keep on sinking. The other big thing about the water is that it is hot. Really hot. About 30 degrees apparently. Will have to see how it goes tomorrow, in the end the swim tends to go by feel, but those are the sorts of temperatures that slow you down, whether you want to or not.
After the swim we headed back to the hotel for another round of breakfast before I headed back down to the expo to seek out pedal pods for my Garmin Vectors. Long story short, I didn't have any joy and thanks to some questionable shuttle buses the entire process took much longer than it should have, which was rather annoying at the time. I got back in time for lunch and a message from fellow West Aussie Triathlete Oscar Booth saying that he had heard my Vectors were stuffed and that since he wasn't racing (he is here to watch girlfriend Katy Duffield) I was welcome to borrow his. Unfortunately I didn't have time to sort out the Vectors before we had to head back down to the Expo for the race briefing.
The original plan for Tim Green and I had been to attend the briefing then rack the bikes, check out transition and then head back to the hotel for an afternoon of relaxation. I caught up with Oscar at the briefing so I changed plans, headed back to the hotel sorted out the power meter (hooray) then finally headed down to transition. The stuffing around meant I was done about an hour later than I had originally planned, and if I am honest I feel like I have spent a bit to much time in the heat today. But the up shot is that the bike is operating as planned again and everything is tucked away and sorted.
Since getting back I have had a nice few hours in my room cooling down. I have had a good stretch and packed all the gear for tomorrow. My last task for the day is writing this, which I have nearly finished doing. After this it will be time for dinner and then after that time a bit more relaxing and then bed. We don't have an early start tomorrow. Sunrise here isn't until about 7:00am and so we don't start racing until 7:15. The nice upshot to that is that we don't need to get up super early and so I don't need to be in bed at 8:00pm. There is a good chance I will be anyway though.
The afternoon/evening storm has just rolled into Putrajaya, which is one of those things that I miss about the tropics. Now that everything is squared away for tomorrow, it is shaping up to be a relaxing night.
Tomorrow, time to race.
