Putrajaya 70.3 in brief

Well I was all set to do a post about the Putrajaya 70.3 today, but I have just found that my laptop has died, and I am not going to write a long post on a phone (I like you guys but there is a limit to what I am willing to do).

I will give a brief summary of my day though. In short I got through the day in just under 4 hours 28 minutes. A slow time on a slow day. That was enough to get me 7th in the pro men and 10th male overall. Happy to get another top 10.

If there are any downsides to the day it is that I was 5th until about the halfway point of the run. I am not kicking myself to much because I know that whilst the run was slow, it was all I had. Over all I am happy with how I executed the race. I would have loved to have run quicker, but in extreme conditions like we had today you don't always get your way. Sometimes you need to read how your body is feeling and listen to what it is telling you. I know that by 11km on the run my heart rate was 170 and I couldn't bring it or my body temperature under control. Getting to the finish required a change in tactics which is what I did, opting to walk the aid stations to ensure I got the nutrition and cooling I needed. It wasn't pretty but it got me there. Sometimes that is all you can ask for. Certainly for me, on a day like today, reaching the finish line felt like victory enough.

Big congratulations to fellow Daryl athlete Ange Castle who came home with 4th in the women.

That will do for now, I will get a chance to do a proper update tomorrow when I get access to a real keyboard. For now though I have a bike to pack.
