Super spiders

Okay, back now.

People often talk about doing a session that blows out the cobwebs. Fairly common saying. However, I have to say it is a feeling that I have rarely experienced myself. Perhaps during the odd ride, but not often. However, my swim this morning definitely fits into that category.

I got down to the pool this morning and my first 100m felt awful, followed by another 100m that felt only marginally better. However, as I persisted through the session I gradually improved and by the end I was feeling alright. Not world beating, but also not bad.

I am not entirely sure where the cobwebs came from though. A bit like when you are cleaning your house and you clear away a cobweb and then the next day they are back again (particularly in Darwin). I just cleaned there!!! So perhaps I had Darwin cobwebs. Whatever the reason it was good to a positive session, mentally I needed it.

I had a hard day yesterday. You may have gathered by the blog post last night.

The day started off with a tough ride. Nothing went wrong on the ride, it was just a tough session. The ride itself was hard and the slightly unpleasant weather from Wednesday was still hanging around Thursday morning, making the ride just that little bit harder. In fact I possibly overdid it a little and cooked myself. However, it was yesterday afternoon that I really felt the day. Yesterday afternoon's session was a run and to put it bluntly I struggled. Cumulative factors I think. Hot, sweaty conditions in which I probably went about 3km further than I should have before I grabbed a drink. Tough ride the session before at the tail end of a tough week. A few other reasons besides. The upshot was just painful. Not a happy memory. Still these are the struggles that success is built on.

Sometimes though I just think it would be more fun if success was built on cake instead.
