Flat out doing nothing

Weekendy sort of day today. You know those days where you don't do a lot, but you spend all day doing it.

On the program today it was officially a day off. It didn't quite work out that way in practice, but that was pretty much all self inflicted so I won't complain.

The self inflicted activities were a bit of a gentle spin on the bike and a bit of a swim. When I say gentle spin, I really mean it. Some of the guys at work have been talking about going on a group ride sometime. I have always been keen, but with the training schedule I have known that I was unlikely to ever get time. When I saw that I had this morning off, I thought this would be a good chance, so we organised to meet up and headed out. Everybody had a good time, but tour contenders these guys aren't, so it was a very low key lap of the river. It was nice to be out on the road though and just enjoying rolling along rather than focusing on hitting this target or chasing that speed. Nice to to that sometimes.

The other bit of training I did today was catching up on the swim that I missed on Wednesday. For that I headed down to the Saturday Swim Smooth session, which is always a fun way to pick up a swim session. The sessions are never easy, but they often aren't total soul crushers either. Just a fun session. Today's session was exactly one of them. Challenging but never a struggle. The sort of thing you finish up feeling good.

The final bit of activity for the day was a trip to Churchill Cycles for a bit of a serious talk about gear. I won't say too much yet, since the aforementioned gear won't be here for a week or so. But let's just say it is a fairly new product, comes from Canada and has a lot to do with the letter S and the number 5.

Tired now. Sometimes it is amazing just how tiring a day of doing nothing can be. So time for a bit of relaxing and followed by sleep.
