Monday?

Tuesday today.

I have to keep reminding myself that. Whenever we have a public holiday on the Monday it throws me out for the rest of the week. Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday.

So far it has been a very pleasant Tuesday, as Tuesday's go. I had a very nice ride this morning. Last night I set the bike up in all its race day finery and this morning was a bit of a trial of it all. Everything worked the way it is supposed to. The disc wheel is still speedy, so that is nice, hopefully the speed doesn't wear out anytime soon.

Today is supposed to be horribly warm in Perth (39 degrees), but this morning it was still just thinking about it, so the temperature wasn't that bad on the bike. Even the wind wasn't too unpleasant. Usually on these hot, hot days we get howling Easterlies in the morning, but this morning it wasn't too bad at all. A few gusts to remind me that I was riding deep dish wheels and to not get to complacent, but nothing unmanageable.

I suspect by my run this afternoon it will be a little bit warmer. It is always very hard to guess how hot it is going to be in the afternoon. Sometimes the days hit their max around lunch and then cool right down. Other times they just keep on heating up. Looking at the forecast winds I suspect today is going to be one of the later. The weather is certainly putting in an earnest effort, with the temperature cracking 35 already (11:30am). The run this afternoon has some high intensity stuff, so I will keep an eye on the weather. If necessary I will turn down the run this afternoon a little bit. I suspect I won't need to, but running flat out in extreme heat can do some funny things to you, so I will be a bit careful. I have had enough run ins with heat stress for one lifetime thank you.

I just printed out all the material for the Busselton Olympic Distance that I am doing this weekend. Doing so has reminded me that this is an Olympic Distance and not a Half Ironman event (I hadn't really forgotten). Whilst they both require mental and physical preparation, logistically the Olympic is so much easier. The race doesn't start until 8:00am, bike racking takes place the morning of the race etc. I do like that many elements of the Olympic are simpler, nutrition (not so crucial), spares, (probably not worth the effort) etc. It has made me relax a little bit.

Speaking of both weather and the Busselton. Forecast for Sunday is for not a lot of pleasantness. 34 degrees and howling Easterly winds (cross head on the way out, cross tail coming home). I have said before that I don't place a lot of weight on forecasts five or so days before an event, but still, given the time of year, those sorts of conditions would not be unexpected.  I will see closer to the Sunday, but I think I might be taking my 808 rear wheel just in case though.
