Light Show

Crazy bit of weather this morning. Rain, lightening, thunder, the full bit. The epitomise of a Summer storm. Certainly any number of cool lightening photos floating around the interwebs now as a result.

Despite the rather insane weather, I did manage to get out for a run this morning. Not that much of an effort really since the storm was mostly just noise and not a lot of actual rain. Super sweaty though. Whilst we didn't get much rain, we certainly got the humidity. Sweating up a storm.

Run went okay. Last one before the Busselton Olympic Distance on the weekend. As such it was more speed work, similar idea to what I was doing on Tuesday. Similarly painful too. It was another good session though, with some reassuring times.

This past week has been a good one for running. The work we have been doing to prepare for the Olympic Distance has forced me to think about running faster again, and I have found that with thinking about it, I have been finding the speed. It has been interesting to me to see how much of it is mental. Can you simply decide to run quickly? Perhaps to a certain extent you can. If you are physically capable, the only restriction left is mental.

Last night it was a bit of a session on the trainer. Thankfully, despite the hot temperatures yesterday, last night it wasn't too hot, so I didn't melt into a puddle. It took me a while to warm up into the session, but once I got there, the session went well. Got some good power numbers. I think I put a bit of fatigue into the legs for this morning though. It certainly felt like that when I set off running.

Tomorrow I have a bit of a swim and then I really am on the downhill run to race day. This week has been a bit of a taper anyway (sort of), but tomorrow I have half a swim session and then nothing else.

In other news this week. I decided on Tuesday to go and race the Subic Bay 70.3 up in the Philippines in early March. I had been umming and ahhhing about if since around Christmas, so this week I finally pulled the trigger and committed to it. The rest of this week has been putting the final touches on how to get there. I think I am nearly sorted now. The Philippines is not a country I have been to before, so there is a lot of unknowns, but I think I have it fairly sorted out.

Famous last words.
