As I mentioned yesterday I did manage to get out running last night for a bit of a hip flexor test session. I am still undecided how it went. When I started running the hip flexor pain levels were lower than they have previously been, but not gone. The pain levels increased as I kept going. I don't think they got as bad as they have been. But it still got sore. I pulled up okay afterwards though. I am still deciding what to make of it. I think it means I have had some improvement, but the issue is persisting.
I had a physio session today where we discussed it a bit more. The physio feels we are on the right track and as such has asked me to keep on with my stretching regime and has given me a bit of strength work to supplement it. This is exactly what athletes like me love. 'We know the answer' and 'this is how we will fix it'. Most athletes are willing to take the time if that is what the injury needs, and they are usually more than happy to do the rehab work. But I think athletes just hate not knowing the cause and the answer. I know I certainly do. Once I have a way forward, brilliant, point me in the direction and set me going.
The physio doesn't feel the injury itself is a mystery, he said unspecified groin pain is what they call it these days, since it is easier than trying to diagnose the exact cause (there are many candidates). He was a bit baffled as to how I did it though, since he said it is an injury you apparently see more in footballers and soccer players, games with a kicking motion. I have to say I wasn't really able to enlighten him any further, since I am not sure either.
Moving away from the dark art of running though and on to the entirely more wholesome pursuit of cycling. I had a very nice ride this morning. Quite a gorgeous morning. Absolutely no wind, I mean none. Not that cold either. Just really pleasant, fast rolling along. Very lovely. About the only downside to the morning was when I was getting changed and found that our cat had used a pair of my knicks at a litter tray. Hmmm, unpleasant.
Probably look into a bit of a swim in the morning. Although I need to have a chat to my wife about that, so I won't write that one into the diary in permanent marker yet.
Now, time for a little bit more riding.
