Grumble in the Jungle

Day 4 in the jungle.

Today things are continuing in much the same way as the past three days have gone. The daily routine is something like:

wake up,
stretch,
eat breakfast
go to work,
go back to camp
eat dinner
exercise
sleep.

So far today things have followed the usual paths.

After saying last night that I wasn't sure if I would get any training in, I did end up jumping on the treadmill. There is a certain point in your evening when it is about 7:30 and you realise that your options are exercise, sleep or karaoke (it is very popular here). I have issues with going to bed at 7:30 and I have even more issues with karaoke, so I thought I might as well exercise. It is amazing how much time you are left with when TV and the internet are removed. I guess option four would have been read a book, but I am desperately trying to make my book last until I get back to Jakarta, so I have been strictly rationing that.

Anyway, exercise it was. So it was off to my home away from home away from home away from home. The gym. When I say gym, this is really what I mean.

Not extensive is one way of describing it. Very sweaty is another. The main thing is that it has two functional treadmills, and in the end that is sort of all I need.

Once I got myself going the run went alright. I say alright because I thought it was a nice change from saying it went okay. The run felt pretty good for most of it, but after about 40 minutes I started to get a bit sore and today I am a bit sorer than I have been after my previous few runs. I will wait to get some feedback from the physio on Monday, but I suspect if I run tomorrow it will be a shorter one again. Slowly slowly. I am happy with how the running is feeling, it is just the residual soreness that concerns me.

With that in mind I am planning on not doing any proper exercise tonight. Partly that is because I really can't face another hour on that abomination of an exercise bike and also partly because I think I could do with having a really good stretching session. I have been stretching every day, but my stretch sessions have tended to be slotted in around everything else and so haven't been as good as they could be. So I think tonight I will take my time and have a good quality stretch before hopefully having another run tomorrow.

5 more days until I am home and can get on with my life.

Not that I am counting...

Also big congratulations to fellow Daryl coached athlete Tim Green, with a very impressive performance at the Sunshine Coast. Three very strong legs put in a single race, 12th pro in a pretty damn strong field. Solid work.
