Coach

So here we go, I now have a training plan/coach, all systems go.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was thinking about getting myself a training program to help me prepare for the Australian SUP Championships in October this year. Well I have finally managed to get that training program. It all kicks off next week.

I have written numerous times of the advantages of a training program/coach and I am looking forward to having those advantages for myself. If you have a program from a trusted source then you have confidence in exactly what is coming next. You no longer have to guess or wonder what you should be doing in your next session, you know exactly. All you have to do is follow that program and you can know that progress and improvement will come. No more second guessing. That level of certainty is great and helps promote program compliance because it is easy to get out the door when you know that each time you do is helping build you towards your goal. I have always loved that certainty and I am looking forward to having it again.

The program isn't a huge shift from what I have been doing in training, but there are a few more specific sessions and gives a good focus to the strength work, which I am looking forward to. I am even planning on joining a gym which I haven't done for rather a long time.

If I am honest training has been feeling a little bit flat recently. Winter combined with routine has meant things feel like they are a little in a rut and it has been a struggle to get out the door. I feel I have been doing enough to maintain fitness, but not enough to drive improvement in the way that I have been needing. I am not expecting this program to be a silver bullet (nothing ever is), but I am hoping that the slight change to routine and the added focus that a program brings will help me refocus on the work that needs doing. I have 17 weeks from this weekend until race day. I am looking forward to using this program to help me use those 17 weeks to drive fitness and form as much as possible in that time.

I have always advocated the advantages of having a coach. It is good to be back on the wagon.
