Very proud day today. Today I had an athlete get a medal at a National Championship which is a first for me. Pretty stoked if I am honest.
The athlete in question is Jane and today she got 3rd in the 55 to 59 year old age group at the Australian Olympic Distance Championships at Mooloolaba. Very special.
Jane is a pretty class athlete and has been in the top 10 before (5th last year), so I can hardly claim much credit, but I am still really happy for her, this is her first national podium and that is a pretty big deal.
The secret to her success is hardly a secret at all, basically she trains really hard. As a coach it amazes me how often I have this conversation about somebody's success. People come in and ask how they do it and the answer is simple, they follow their program, get the sessions done, do the sessions correctly and don't make excuses for themselves. Jane is exactly like this. It isn't all that complicated and as a coach you see it time and again, but it is a concept that many athletes continually fail to understand and then wonder why they are missing their racing goals.
Jane is basically every coaches dream, she seeks guidance but doesn't require motivation, does what she is asked, trains consistently and with dedication. Really her success is no surprise and it is thoroughly well deserved.
I couldn't be happier for her.
