Starting at the beginning

Okay, fingers crossed, touching wood, tossing salt and all those other things, I think I am going to be sitting in a nice little rut in Perth for the next few weeks. I know the last time I said that I was told of a trip within the next 24 hours, but this time I am reasonably confident. I am currently not aware of any travel that is required and I am hoping that it stays that way for the next little bit at least (although longer would be good too).

Nobody wants to be stuck in a rut that is true, but it can be nice to settle in with the known every now and then, find a rhythm etc and that is definitely what I am after.

Training for the last month or so has been a bit interrupted, but despite that I feel like I am finally hitting some good strides. I am feeling fitter and I think I am finally making gains in speed, strength etc. I am really looking forward to having a bit of consistent time at home to do more of the same.

Coaching wise it is a similar story. For the past few weeks I have managed to coach a few sessions, but it is intermittent at best. The sessions I have missed have all been run by other coaches, so the athletes aren't missing out, but I miss the continuity. It is nice to be able to chat to the athletes week to week, see how they are going, how the race preparation is going, how the last race went etc. Without that continuity you can start to feel a bit disconnected from the squad, which is obviously not great.

Yep, I have to say that I am really looking forward to having at least a couple of weeks at home, settling back in and getting on with life
