Nice quiet day today. Not much on the coaching front and not much on the training front either. Nicely it was a day that had a bit of time to sit around at the end. Very rare.
I had to be at my day job quite early this morning and so I didn't have time to do much training, just a quick strength session. I was thinking of training this afternoon, but once I got home I also thought it would be very nice to lie in a hammock for 20 minutes and read. I don't do this particularly often so I went with that option instead. Consistency and dedication is all very nice etc, but sometimes lying in a hammock and reading is pretty good too. Don't tell my athletes I said that.
On the training front today is a bit of a slow day in among a fair bit of hard work.A very solid day of training yesterday and then some big days planned for the rest of the week. Given this, having a bit of a lighter day in between probably wasn't the end of the world. I have one of the larger local paddling events coming up at the end of next week and so this week is all about getting in some quality training, which is what the second half of this week will be aiming to do. I am still feeling pretty underdone and realistically I think I will get to race day still wishing I had a few more weeks, but what will be will be. All this interrupted training over the past month has taken its toll. As I mentioned the other day there are signs of improving fitness etc, but I think I won't quite be there by the end of next week. We shall see though. The events are pretty short and so overall fitness is going to play a smaller part than it could and so it may not hurt me as much as I am worried about. We shall see.
A good bit of training tomorrow, a bit of coaching in the afternoon and then a three day weekend for some more quality training. Looking like it could be a good few days coming up.
