Phew what a day. That was a day where a lot of boxes were ticked. Actually it has been that kind of a weekend.
As I mentioned yesterday, today was all about program writing. 7 programs to be exact. That is a fair few for me on a typical weekend.
Today's effort was actually a good indication to me of how I have progressed as a coach over the last 12 months. This time last year it would have taken me 2 days solid to work through 7 programs. Today it took me a few hours. I like to think that this isn't due to a lack of diligence or care on my behalf, but rather than that with experience comes familiarity and efficiency, knowing what to put on a program and when, allowing me to work through them much more quickly and efficiently while still providing the athletes with the individual care they deserve. Pretty happy that I managed to do that today. Noice.
Beyond writing a bunch of programs the other activities of the day included a stack of very satisfying chores around the house and a bit of exercise.
The exercise bit of the day was a nice reminder that not every session can be amazing. Fair to say that the session today was not that fun, a bit of a drag. I was a little tired and wasn't really feeling it, you can probably guess that the quality was not high. Although the session may not have been that enjoyable, that isn't to say that it wasn't useful. Sure a higher quality session would have been better, but the session that I did wasn't a complete waste. I spent time training and got the associated fitness benefit. While my focus may not have been complete there were good moments in the session that bought with them improvements in skill. Yes, good quality training is definitely something to aspire too, but that can be hard to achieve every time, sometimes just getting out there and doing something is enough. Success comes through consistent work, doing the grind day in and out. Sometimes it is magic and other days it isn't pretty, but getting it done is the key. Today was that.
Hopefully we get a bit of magic tomorrow.
