Annoying Patterns

Alright, back in action. It has been a long few days since Saturday, but it sure is good to be home.

Got to say I am a little bit sick of airports at the moment. 10 days out of the last 35 have been spent travelling. That doesn't sound all that bad, but trust me it is a real pain. The time away from family, the interruptions to routine, the backlog of work, all pretty darn annoying.

Besides the lost family time bit, probably the most annoying aspect of all this travel has been the broken routine with respect to training. Every time it starts to feel like I am finding a rhythm for exercise I am off again. The nature of this travel is that it is pretty hard to fit in exercise, so each trip ensures an enforced break from training. Not bad if you need a recovery week, but for the past month I have been travelling every two weeks, which means the training breaks are a little to frequent for my liking. Frustratingly I probably have another trip in two weeks. This should be the last one for a while, but it means that this annoying cycle isn't quite done yet.

Currently I have a race at the end of March which I would to do as well as possible in. It isn't a long race, so peak fitness is not paramount, but still the idea of not preparing as well as I possibly can really grates on me. With all this travel (and the bit left to come) I can't help but feel like I am giving away fitness and speed. I always advise my athletes to plan training around what you can realistically fit in, if you plan to do more than you can actually fit then you will inevitably miss sessions which will end up being frustrating and disappointing. With these trips it isn't that I am planning sessions and missing them, but rather than I simply don't have time to plan them in the first place, I can confirm that this is still pretty frustrating.

Still, as annoying as this week has been and future weeks may be, I can still make the most of now and enjoy the time I have for training in the moment I am now. No training today, simply too shattered after travelling, but I will be back into it tomorrow and hopefully into a solid week of exercise to come.
