It hasn't been a particularly bad week or anything, no hard sessions or difficult meetings, just a week where the motivation levels have been a bit low and the week has seemed to drag just a little. Lack of sleep might have a little something to do with it. Perhaps.
Besides feeling just a wee bit flat, the 24 hours have contained a good little bit of training. Last night I was not feeling the running love, but managed to get myself out for a 30 minute run all the same. As is often the case with these things, once I got myself going I settled in and really enjoyed the run. As I have seen time and again, it is always worth getting out the door, because you never know how you are going to feel once you are on your way.
I am still keen to start building the running miles, but I am just not getting out enough to do it safely at this stage. I am still only running once a week, which isn't really enough to produce any significant improvements or gains. Hopefully I can build that up to a couple of runs a week in the coming few weeks, but we shall see, I think I have been saying that for a while now. Still, it is always worth having a goal. Keen to keep working on it.
On a similar note to my experience with the run yesterday, the swim the morning went okay too despite feeling flat when I got out of bed. The session with Swim Smooth this morning could be best described as relentless. It looked a little something like:
- 4 x 150m
- 300m
- 4 x 100m
- 300m
- 4 x 50m
- 300m.
The tough bit was that the session was designed to be done with decreasing rest, so by the time we got to the 50s we were only getting a few seconds rest per lap. Oh yeah and the 300s were quick too. The session pretty much never stopped coming, it made for a tough morning. Still, despite being a bit tired I got through the session okay. For the first time in months I didn't feel like I was feeling the water very well, kind of like I was losing a bit of connection on the catch, but I am putting that down to a tired brain and so am not going to worry too much. Some mornings you feel good and some mornings you feel less so, the important thing is that you don't obsess about it too much and you get out for the next session. In my experience the feel returns with time and before you know it things feel good again.
As always consistency is the key.
Oh and getting some sleep. Getting some sleep is important too. Something I might go and work on shortly.
