Its Real

Unghhh, the pain is real.

Not sure why I continue to be surprised by the pain and fatigue you feel the day after a race, but I always seem to be a bit surprised by how I am feeling the next morning. Today is no exception, feeling a bit tired and beat up today. We are currently going through that joyful experience of moving house, which I suspect might be contributing to my current fatigue and soreness levels, however, I think it is mostly from the 90 minute flat out race I did yesterday. Good chance.

Could be a two coffee day I suspect.

Getting up to go out for a recovery session was a bit of an effort this morning, bed felt particularly comfortable and warm. Still getting out for an easy session to roll over the legs/arms can be a great way to speed up recovery to get you back into more intense training just that little bit quicker. That is certainly my hope for this week. One of my A races for the year is in two weeks from yesterday and so my hope for this week is to get in a pretty intense 7 days of training. I will see how that actually pans out when combined with the aforementioned house moving, but hopefully I can get in some decent miles, squeeze in one last little bit of fitness before a proper taper next week.

Speaking of racing, I think there is some sort of race coming up this weekend. A triathlon of some kind if I am not mistaken.

If my social media is anything to go by Kona fever is starting to ramp up properly this week. Lots more photos of Queen K, the pier and all the other usual "tick the box" locations in my feed than there is usually. If I am not mistaken there should be a whole raft of "Undie Run" in a few days time.

Normally I really enjoy watching Kona, but this year is the first time that I actually have some skin in the game. Front Runner has three athletes over there this year, including one of mine, which means I will be watching the race on Saturday with particular attention. Unfortunately for my athlete he hasn't been able to have the best preparation, his lead up being hampered by some injuries. However, I think in the past few weeks we have been able to put together some good training which means I am confident he will get through the day. Hopefully between now and then he can relax in the Kona craziness, get in some good training, focus and then get on with the business of putting his race together on Saturday.

Should be an interesting week between now and then.

Now, time for more coffee.
