Looks like something just this side of Armageddon\\ forecast for tomorrow.
The weather has certainly got a lot of athletes running for the hills, or at least seeking alternative arrangements. For me I think I might be on the trainer (or just sleeping in). If the weather turns up as forecast I don't see that I have a lot of choice. Sure I could run or ride out in the weather, but that would just be unpleasant and borderline dangerous. I could always swim obviously, but I think I would prefer to be on the trainer.
Of course I will definitely be getting up to check the weather in the morning, rather than simply writing the session off now, you never quite know what will turn up in the morning. The forecast is for hell and high water, but forecasts are wrong all the time. It wouldn't be the first time that unpleasantness was predicted and niceness turned up instead. If the unexpected happens then I will plan to be out on the river, but if I am honest I am not expecting that. The forecast might be wrong, but I don't think it will be that wrong.
The other bit of interest will be just what happens at the track session I coach on Thursday nights. While the forecast for tomorrow is unfun, the most unfun bit seems to be in the afternoon, right when I will be coaching. I will be there anyway, no doubt about that, however, what I am wondering is if I will be alone or not. Triathletes are remarkably fickle creatures, in my experience if it looks unpleasant then you might lose half the squad (if not more). The Stadium Tri club folks that I will be coaching tomorrow are pretty good have seen them turn up in all sorts of nastiness but still, horrible weather is horrible weather. We shall see what happens.
All around Perth there is a general feeling among the sporting class that it is about time for Winter to wind up. It has been grand, we need the rain etc, but people are just about over it. There is a palpable feeling that we are at the tail end, that the weather will start to dry out and improve any day now. It feels like it is close, but it certainly has not arrived and is unlikely too for the rest of this week looking at the forecast.
Obviously the weather will turn eventually, we will have some weeks of perfection and then before we know it we will be complaining about how hot it is. This will happen without a doubt as it has for every year before this one. However, the until then, I think everybody is just about ready to see the back end of this rain.
