Official

Well it is official, Perth has had a wet Winter. As of today it has apparently been the wettest winter in 50 years. That is a lot of rain. Well it is for us anyway.

The weather is a funny beast, no matter how wet it is, or how hot Summer is we always like to complain about it. Winter always feels like it has never been so cold, or so wet and Summer the opposite. However, this year people are correct and it really hasn't been this wet, or at least not for a very long time. There are a lot of people walking around saying "I know we need the rain, but I am a bit over it" and they would be dead right.

Other than being a bit wet and cold the rain isn't much of an issue for most sensible people in the world. However, for some of the crazier people around town it has been a bit of a royal pain in the backside. High on the list of these people are those who have qualified for Kona and are trying to fit an Ironman training program in around the endless rain squalls. Just over 6 weeks to go until the big dance and most of the Kona athletes I know of are well sick of the weather. They have been getting the training done because they have to, but they haven't necessarily been enjoying it.

I think for most of them the last few months have involved a lot of indoor training and just generally getting out the door and getting it done in the rain. Not the most appealing of conditions, but you don't qualify for Kona by being scared of the work.

It looks like the Kona folks could be in for a bit of respite though. This current cold front is due to pass today and after that we will probably have a few showers, but apparently things are looking drier and warmer in Spring. We will of course all be complaining about the weather come summer, but I suspect a month of dry weather in the final lead up to Kona will be welcome by everyone.

Speaking of World Championships, we are now on the final countdown to 70.3 World Championship time. 3 more sleeps for the ladies and 4 sleeps for the guys. Nerves will be started to get very jangled. I have 3 athletes over there racing and I am really looking forward to seeing how they go. They have all trained well in the lead up and are in season best condition, so hopefully race execution goes well and we see some good results.

Counting the minutes now.

Now, time to go and watch the rain falling.
