Satisfaction

A gooood day today. One of those days where you get to the end and have a nice glow of satisfaction.

For what feels like weeks now I have been hanging out for a day where we weren't running from one thing to the next trying to cram it all in. I am sure we have had some quiet weekends in the last few weeks, it is just that I can't exactly think of one. Today we finally managed it.

The lovely day started out a bit of exercise. After weeks of strong winds and strangely variable temperatures, this morning was simply perfect for exercise, no matter what you were doing. It was a solid reminder of why I love exercising in Autumn so much. Light winds, a slight chill. Hopefully the first of many perfect autumn mornings to come.

The exercise I chose to go with was a paddle on the river. For a while I have been wanting to get out and just have a nice long paddle where I didn't have a deadline. Today I managed that. In the end it was the longest paddle I have ever done, which was nicely satisfying. And very fatiguing for the shoulders, which was kind of nice too. A great way to start the day.

We followed up the paddle with a few hours down the beach. We were a bit unsure about the beach visit as we thought that the chill that made exercise so nice would make the beach unpleasant. We were very wrong, it was absolutely lovely down there.

After the beach and a bit of lunch it was time to get down to the business of triathlon, in this case a bit of program writing. The kids are all still recovery from a sleep deprived Friday night and so they were happy to have a quiet afternoon which freed me up to get on with \writing programs for athletes.

Today's programs were a bit of a mixed bag which always makes the programs interesting, but also quite time consuming as you have to spend a lot of time customising each one. Today's programs included:

  • a girl who is training for an offroad triathlon on the way to the Busselton 70.3.
  • a guy who works very hard as a doctor and is also busy training for the Busso 70.3 in May
  • another girl who is relatively new to triathlon and is preparing for Busso which will be her first half Ironman
  • and another woman who would like to be training for Busso but currently has an injury and can't run.
As you can see, quite an eclectic mix. Each one with their own needs, strengths, limitations and requirements. Fair to say I wrote four fairly different programs today. One of the challenges of coaching, but also one of the things that can make it so satisfying.

Getting the programs all done was also a great relief as once it was done I could spend the rest of the day just relaxing, which is exactly what I did.

A very satisfying day indeed.S
