A bit of an update today from Dr Stobie. As I mentioned in my last blog, yesterday Dr Stobie was consulting with some of his colleagues about my case and today he gave me a call to let me know what they had been thinking.
As predicted not a lot of change in the immediate future, but there is perhaps a bit of brightness coming on the horizon. As previously requested, Dr Stobie has asked for me to keep it pretty easy for the next week or so until I see him next. The main reason for this is to let the heart heal a bit following the ablation. At the moment there will be a bit of swelling etc that needs to subside before I ask to much of the ticker.
However, Dr Stobie has given me permission to be a little bit active towards the end of next week. Not anything strenuous obviously, but I don't have to lie on the couch groaning softly to myself either. Perhaps go for a surf, perhaps even jump on the Kickr for a light spin, just a few things to keep the body moving.
The week after next I will be having my next appointment with Dr Stobie. By that appointment the heart will have done some healing and it will a good time to do some more testing (probably another Holter Monitor), assess how the heart is doing post operation and udge whether things have improved or not. Plan the way forward.
Dr Stobie didn't really elaborate beyond that next appointment and really there isn't really much point getting too far ahead of myself. However, he did indicate that if the heart is travelling well then I might be able to return to some moderate exercise sooner than the previously recommended three months which is great news. I have always said I am happy to take the three months off if that is what I need to reduce my risk, however, it wouldn't be my first choice. If I am able to safely return to some level of activity sooner, then that is always going to be my preference. I love doing exercise and removing it from my life completely was always going to be hard.
Still, as I have said, I am not going too get ahead of myself, one step at a time.
As I said above though, I have been given permission to do a bit of activity between now and my next appointment and so with in mind I was out doing just that this morning. Nothing particularly crazy mind you, just a light walk with the dog.
Still it was great to get outside and be a little bit active. The walk also was a good reminder that while I have been feeling okay the last couple of days, the heart is still healing. While I felt fine for most of the walk, there were a couple of little ectopic beats to remind me that all is still not well. Nothing too bad though, so I will definitely be doing more of this.
