Enjoyable and Worthwhile

A bit more training today.

Yesterday I mentioned that I was hoping to get out on the bike today, but I wasn't sure whether the weather was going to come to the party. There was some rain forecast for this morning, but I was hopeful that it wouldn't eventuate and I would be able to get out on the road. Turns out that is just what happened.

Whilst it wasn't raining during my ride, the conditions weren't exactly all kittens and buttercups. This morning the sky was clear, but the wind was blowing an absolute gale.

Despite the wind, the ride was actually a lot of fun. Well okay not all of it, the howling headwind sections weren't exactly giggles, but as a collective I had a lot of fun. The heart played ball for most of the ride, staying under control and not causing me too much discomfort. The heart behaving meant that I was able to relax and enjoy the riding.

The riding felt pretty good too. The power was down on what I have been used to, but that wasn't really the point of the ride. Having said that, the power wasn't actually too bad for a steady ride. I only got in 90km or so, but I was happy with how I was feeling by the end of it. Particularly after the run yesterday.

As with the run yesterday and the swim on Friday, today's ride was all about getting a better understanding of my current physical limits, how long can I ride, how hard can I go etc and still feel okay. If I am honest I was a bit disappointed with how the swim and the run went. I hit my limits a bit sooner and a bit harder than I was hoping for. Today's ride was a little ray of sunshine in that respect, a sign that training can still be an enjoyable and worthwhile exercise even with a wonky heart. Hopefully as I continue to build some fitness, the other two legs can start to feel enjoyable and worthwhile too.

I will continue my journey to make all elements of my training feel enjoyable  and worthwhile again tomorrow, this time with another swim. As is my motto these days, the session will all be about slow and steady. Hopefully it can be another step in the right direction
