Steady work

Well here I am, back down south of Perth, Busselton way, ready for some training. Of course while there is training to come, there has already been a bit of training today.

The training for this morning was a nice little ride down towards Bunbury. At one point there had been a plan to ride all the way to Bunbury (about 170km) but with my recent cold we decided that caution was the better part of valour and instead rode south for about 120km before being picked up by a friend. Turns out that 120km was about enough.

It isn't that 120km was particularly far, but more the nature of those 120km. Once you get south of Mandurah (about 75km south of Perth) the road gets pretty coarse and after 40km or so of that our little group of cyclists had had enough. Multiple ejected bottles and a couple of flats and we were running out of will. Plus we had spent most of the 120km working into a headwind, which isn't always a lot of fun. Fair to say once we were done we were worn out both physically and mentally. Happy to stop.

Particularly when the finish looked like this:

So tasty.

A little tired now though. I am not so fit that a solid 120km is simply a doddle in the park. The ride has taken a bit out of me. So for the rest of the day the plan is to relax a bit and recover before tomorrow.

Tomorrow it will be time for a long run on what will hopefully be pretty trails. The run will be one of the longer ones I have done in a while and so moderation will definitely be the name of the game. Working to heart rate rather than an expectation of what I should be able to do. Keeping it sensible. Slow and steady will get me there.
