A nice day of training and relaxing today. Just the sort of way you want to spend a day of holiday.
Today has been one of those magical Summer days that we sometimes get in Perth. Light winds in the morning, warm, but not hot, clear blue skies. Simply wonderful. Perfect weather for getting out and about, which is exactly what I did.
The morning started with a nice spin out on the bike. My ride this morning significant because it was my first ride on the Ridley since Ironman WA.
I even rode down the Freeway cycleway, where I spent many an hour training for Ironman. Being back out on the TT bike, cycling the Freeway, sort of made me feel like I had stepped back in time a couple of months. It felt good too though, getting back out on the TT bike, sort of made me feel like I was getting back to some proper training.
The session felt pretty good to. The ride was just a steady one, but I was able t comfortably hold my target power for a couple of hours. Things are definitely returning to normal on the training front.
The only thing that wasn't normal on the ride was my gears. At the start of my ride it because obvious very quickly that something was off with my gears. A quick inspection showed that my rear derailleur hanger was bent. Much to my embarrassment I realised that it had got bent when the bike had blown over while I was taking photos for my review yesterday. The bent hanger didn't stop me riding, but it did make it a bit unpleasant. I got through the session, but almost straight after it was straight to Churchill Cycles to get the issue sorted.
My other training for the day was a lovely swim in the Swan River. Some days when you swim in the river it is a bit of a chore, it can be cold, or murky, or choppy, or all of those together. Other days the river is flat, the sun is shining, the water is warm, the visibility is good and you are surrounded my cute fish singing Disney tunes. Today was one of the later, well except for the Disney tunes. It was a pretty magic swim. There was a bit of current flowing and so it wasn't entirely perfect conditions, but it wasn't far from it. Just the sort of river swim that I love.
Besides the training bit, the rest of today was spent relaxing at my brother in laws house for a BBQ before coming home and setting up our tent in our front yard for an at home camp out with the kids, which is where I am right now typing this blog.
All up a fairly great Summer's Day.
