Here I sit, writing a blog late on a Saturday night, feeling exhausted. It is funny, I think I recall being in a similar situation almost exactly a week ago.
Unlike a week ago though my exhaustion has nothing to do with triathlon, in fact the reason I am tired is quite the opposite. Today I have been flat out having fun with my family, which is kind of a nice reason to be exhausted. If anything I think I might be more tired than I was this time last week.
The first major activity of the day was a family Christmas Party for my work which takes place at a local amusement park. It has been going on for a number of years now and is certainly a highlight of our family's calendar. Today was no exception with much fun had by all. Much tiredness too, but the fun was the main thing.
The second major activity of the day was a farewell dinner for local triathlon legend Janine Willis. Janine is moving back to Canada shortly and so a bunch of us met at a local pub for some farewell food. A sad but fun occasion if such a combination is possible. If anything the family had even more fun at the farewell than it did at the amusement park, but busy afternoon did mean we are all shattered now.
Add in a quick stop on the way home to see some Christmas lights and it has made for a really wonderful day with the family.
As fun and enjoyable as I find triathlon, one of the nice things about being in a recovery phase is having the time to spend on the really important things in life. Today was a great chance to do just that and a great reminder as to why those things are the really important things.
Not to worry, there was a bit of training too, with a lovely swim happening in the river this morning (sans wetsuit!!!). Nothing too major, just enough to get the blood flowing and the arms turning over. Absolutely beautiful morning in the river though. The river can be a bit hit and miss with regards to conditions, but this morning was a definite hit.
Running in the morning, at least that is the plan. First run since Ironman. It could make for an interesting morning
