Another day of recovery today. Lovely. I do enjoy taking part in a bit of mandated slackness.
At least today I did actually get myself out of bed and onto the bike, rather than just think about it like I did yesterday.
The riding that followed was far from impressive. It is strange, you know your body isn't going to have much to offer in the days following an Ironman, but it can be a little surprising to find out just how little it's got. Today I was fine to pootle about, but if I needed to push any harder then my body let me know pretty clearly that it wasn't interested. It wasn't that I couldn't push harder, it is just that my body rather preferred not too. Hills were firmly off the agenda.
I am quite enjoying life immediately post race though. As I talked about yesterday I am taking this time to give myself a physical and mental break. Sleep in if I want to, ride easy if that is what I feel like etc. I am also taking this chance to relax a bit with what I am eating. For example I ate cheese for the first time in ages yesterday. Woohoo, look at me go. In all seriousness I suspect it is probably important that I put a little bit of weight back on, and this isn't just because I am currently eating cake. Getting down to race weight for an event is great and all, but it can make you a little vulnerable to getting ill etc. I usually prefer to be a kilo or two heavier during training to give myself a bit of a buffer. I suspect with my post race eating habits I have already gained that kilo or two, but the idea is still a good one. Plus I really like cake.
Might go riding again tomorrow, perhaps look to head out with some of the guys from Break Your Limits for a bit of a chat. As long as they are happy to wait for me.
