A little blue

A bit of a post Ironman low today. I know I said the other day that I don't tend to get too much of the post race blues, and that is true, but some days you feel more enthused than others.

Tiredness is probably a bit of a factor in my current mindset too, but also I think it is just a natural process. You spend so much time and focus on a particular thing and then once it is gone you can be left with a bit of a motivational void.

As well as the motivational void, I think there is also another element in play and it can feel like a bit of a silly one. For me I think part of why I am feeling a bit low is because I had to go straight from the race back into a busy working week. Nothing brings you crashing back to reality quicker than getting into work and realising that nobody really cares about what crazy shenanigans you get up to on the weekend. Or if they are interested, they really have no comprehension of what it involves. Not that there is anything wrong with it, really there is no reason why others around you should be interested, plus recognition from others is not really a great reason to do an Ironman. But sometimes all you want to do is talk about the race, perhaps relive it a bit, and once you are back into real life you tend to lose that opportunity. You can find yourself, like I have, being four days after the race having to remind yourself that it even occurred. That can be a little depressing.

Still, I can remind myself because it did happen and in the end that is a very cool thing. Whether others know about it or not it is largely irrelevant because it is a memory that nobody can take away from me. In the end that is much more important that what others may think.

Whilst this week back at work has been busy, I haven't had to neglect the outdoors entirely. I still got to enjoy a nice ride this morning with some of the guys from Break Your Limits.

Very nice morning out, although it was epically windy. Great to catch up with some of the guys as well as keep the body moving. This session was probably the first I have had post race where the body started to feel remotely normal. Still a bit fatigued if I am honest, but at least a lot of the muscle soreness is starting to dissipate, the back is beginning to loosen etc. Should be back to normal in no time, well perhaps a little longer than no time, but today was a nice sign of progress. I may even try a swim in the morning...
