Busselton Ironman Day 2

So, Day 2 of our Ironman WA adventure is mostly done.

Today has been a busy, admin sort of day down here at Ironman WA. Busy but also relaxing and a bit exciting. Can a day be all those things, apparently so. I can honestly say that I am starting to get excited about Sunday, the atmosphere is definitely building here in town.

This morning started nice and early with a bit of a race morning simulation before heading down to the swim course for a bit of a dip.

Absolutely magic in the water I have to say. A little bit of a side wind chop, which I suspect we will have again on Sunday, but lovely in every other way. Great temperature, beautiful clear water. Really a wonderful place to swim. Apparently the water temperature was about 20 degrees, which it is forecast to be again on Sunday, for me that is porridge which is just right. Luverly.

Other than getting down for a swim, and bumping into what seemed to be most of Australia's triathlon community, the other big activity of today has been registering. I am now officially registered for the race on Sunday.

Number 33, very exciting.

You may notice that my number is quite high. The numbering of the men's field doesn't usually go as high as 33. Well this is a very big men's field, but that isn't the reason that I am number 33. The real reason my number is so high is because Ironman WA is taking part in the Women For Tri campaign. The aim of this campaign is to get female participation in triathlons up to 50%. One of the things they are doing to promote this campaign is that at Ironman WA the Female Pros are numbered first and the Male Pros second. That means the Men's numbers start in the teens. Pretty cool I think. Simple, but an effective way to raising the profile of the campaign.

The final few activities of today were attending the briefing, very straight forward but always valuable, and heading out for a bit more training this afternoon. The training this afternoon is a bit of a spin on the bike to make sure it is all working together and then a bit of a jog. Nothing particularly strenuous, just ticking over. Good to get the body moving though.

Speaking of the training, I should probably get on with that.
