Home Again, Home Again

Jiggety jig.

Well that is Training Camp all done and dusted. It was pretty cool and involved a lot of good quality work, but it sure is nice to be home again.

The last bit of Training Camp for me was a run session this morning. The session was a solid one involving three 5km efforts done at around half marathon pace. Going into the session with quite a bit of fatigue I wasn't really sure what I was going to able to produce so I was happy to see that I managed my target paces. If anything I probably ended up a little quicker than that half-marathon pace, although the intensity was correspondingly higher too. It was good to be able to finish the camp on a positive note with a solid session well executed.

Now that the Camp is over it is time to return to normal routine and get on with life. Well almost time anyway. Actually the next few days are going to be a real test of obsessive, triathlon personality. You see over the next couple of days my wife is heading away for some concert tours with one of her orchestras. It is only tomorrow and then the weekend, so she isn't away long. However, during that period I am going to be home alone juggling work and the kids. Fitting training into that mix is going to be quite difficult. Difficult but not impossible I should say, with the help of some baby sitters I will be able to get some training done, but it is going to require me to be quite flexible with it.

Unfortunately being flexible with training is something that I struggle with. Give me a program and time in which to do it and I am happy as the proverbial pig. When I have a program, but I have to duck and dive to get it done, and possibly can't get it all done, it drives the obsessive triathlete in me a little crazy. Luckily I have had a great start to the training week and so if things don't quite go to plan this weekend then I will hopefully survive. To be honest I don't have a lot of choice, the dice will fall where they do. I have a couple of key Ironman prep sessions coming up which I am going to try very hard to get done, everything else is going to have to be a bit discretionary.

Still, it is very nice to be home again.
